The hub committee has been set up as part of the Village Hall CIO with delegated responsibility from the Trustees specifically to manage the development of the new Hub extension & facilities. The Trustees will provide steering and oversight to the Hub Committee.
The task ahead is complex so the hub committee will set up sub-teams to focus on specific areas, including:
Architectural design of the hub and space planning for shop, theatre, kitchen, general storage and services.
Communications to keep community informed and involved.
Finance - business plan for the hub to ensure income will cover costs and managing cash flow during the build.
Fundraising - both local fundraising to build a sense of community ownership of the hub and grant applications to both public and private funding bodies, e.g. the Lottery Community Fund.
Building - collect building requirements from the other teams, produce the schedule of works, management of tendering process and building works.
Theatre - improvements to increase audience capacity, stage accessibility, changing space, storage, lighting and audio-visual equipment. Business plan showing revenue projections based on the variety of theatre activities that will be staged and how often they are expected to happen.
Hall facilities and services - kitchen, lift, toilets, fitness/sports activities, heating, security and booking systems.
The shop team's task includes:
Business plan including; population demographics, transfer of post office, staffing, benchmarking local shops, defining product and service ranges and identifying local suppliers.
Feasibility studies into a café and reducing single use plastics.
Building requirements and allocation of space for retail, counters, office and storage.
Emergency planning in case our existing shop closes before the hub is built.
Set up of the Community Benefit Society.
As a charity the Village Hall CIO cannot trade so, at some point before trading begins, the shop team will transfer to a separate organisation. They will continue to work closely with the Hub Committee to ensure a seamless approach.
Once the hub development is complete the hub committee's role is done. Running of the hall will revert back to the Trustees.
